Blackberry Pearl 3G Review

With the BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9105 you get one of the most compact BlackBerry models available, plus with this entry-level smartphone you will also get 3G connectivity, as well as speed and performance. Not only is this Blackberry compact, measuring 107 x 49.7 x 13.2mm, the Pearl 3G 9105 is also stylish, with a curvier, candy bar design than other Pearl models.

One of the problems with this phone is that it does not come with a QWERTY keyboard so if you use your BlackBerry for messaging this is something to be aware of. Although you won’t get a QWERTY keyboard you do get predictive text, which is very easy to use. The BlackBerry Pearl 3G comes with a nice display, though it is not a touchscreen; instead navigation is done with an optical trackpad. This new version of the optical trackpad, it is very responsive so it shouldn’t be a problem to use.

Some nice multimedia features that come with the BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9105 include a built in, 3.2-megapixel camera that is equipped with zoom, auto focus and flash. You will also be able to record video with this camera, as well as take still photos. You will get plenty of space to store your picture and video files, as the BlackBerry Pearl 3G supports microSD cards of up to 32 GB.

A few of the extras that are included with the BlackBerry Pearl 3G include a GPS system, and Bluetooth so that you can connect wirelessly to headsets and speakers. Of course as this phone runs the BlackBerry OS 5.0, you will get a lot of the same features that you get with the Bold. The battery life of this phone isn’t too bad either; it is rated for 5.5 hours of talk time on 3G.

For an entry-level smartphone the BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9105 is not a bad choice, it offers some very nice features that are basically standard on a lot of the BlackBerry models, plus you get 3G and a smaller and stylish handset. As mentioned, the problem for some people will be the lack of a QWERTY keyboard.

For those planning to get the BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9105 on a contract, it is best to understand that you’ll be locked into the phone for some time. If you use your mobile for sending email and text messages, you might want to consider a model that does have a QWERTY keyboard instead.

The BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9105 is a great smartphone if you are just making the move from the basic feature phone, especially if you don’t use the text features frequently, the lack of the QWERTY keyboard will not be that big of a deal.
