HTC Smart White Review

Although the HTC Smart White is marketed as a smartphone, it is a basic mobile phone, with standard features and a few elements of the Google Android phones. You will also find that this phone lacks access to any third party application store.

What you get with the HTC White Smart is an entry-level mobile phone that comes in a compact and attractive design. This phone is small enough that it is easy to carry around with you, and comfortable to hold in your hand. Although this phone has is solidly constructed, it probably doesn’t demonstrate the same high quality as the Desire, but then again it is far more affordable too.

Featured with the white HTC Smart is a 2.8-inch resistive touchscreen; this screen provides a bright colour display, though it probably doesn’t compare to the touchscreens that you will get with some of the more expensive mobile phones. The main problem that you will find with the display on the HTC Smart White is that the screen is difficult to see if you are in direct sunlight, aside from that it isn’t too bad for a budget touchscreen phone.

You will find that although the white HTC Smart does have a few similarities to the Android Smartphones, it doesn’t run off of the same operating system at all. This phone runs Qualcomm’s Brew mobile platform, and has the HTC Sense user interface.

Some of the features that you’ll find with the HTC Smart in white are a virtual numeric keypad, as well as an onscreen, full QWERTY keyboard for text messaging. The small display does make sending text messages a little awkward. You will also get 3G with this handset and a basic web browser for surfing the Internet.

Additional features of the HTC Smart White include access to your email, such as Yahoo and Gmail. You will also get a built in 3-megapixel camera that comes with LED flash; there is also a media player that supports a variety of different audio and video file formats. Some users will be disappointed that this handset does not come with GPS or WiFi, but as this is an entry-level phone this isn’t surprising.

The call quality is fairly good, in fact it is probably better in many ways that what you would get with a full smartphone. The battery performance is better, being rated for 300 minutes of talk time and 600 hours of standby, which is really very good.

As long as you don’t expect a full fledged smartphone, the HTC Smart White will satisfy, it’s stylish and compact, and does provide better features than what you will get with most basic mobile phones.
