A recent announcement that mobile handset retailer Carphone Warehouse and Google are in talks could mean that customers may see a pre-Christmas release of the new Google Nexus Two smartphone.
An exclusive deal that could see the successor to the Google Nexus One, which was the new ‘superphone’ released at the start of the year by the search engine giant, released prior to Christmas in all its retail stores is currently being discussed as Carphone Warehouse enters talks with Google according to City AM.
The HTC manufactured Nexus One was the first in Google’s Nexus smartphone range and came with a range of features including a 3.7in AMOLED display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and a Qualcomm 1GHz Snapdragon processor.
A source for City AM recently advised “It looks like Google is experimenting with the future of its mobile model in the UK. It tried releasing through a single carrier, now it is trying a single retailer.”
They went on to add “It could be a solution to the problems it experienced when it tried to sell the Nexus One exclusively through its website. People like to be able to go to a store – this solves that.”
Information regarding the soon to be released Nexus Two smartphone has been quite limited since its announcement with even the manufacturers name being kept a secret. It is, however, expected that Gingerbread, which is the name that is being given to the latest version of the Operating System to be used on Google Android’s mobile handsets, will be used on the new Nexus Two handset when it is finally released.
So far no comments have been made by either carphone warehouse or Google with regards to the talks or an exact release date.
