HTC sued by Apple over patent infringement

It has been reported that the creator of the hugely popular iPhone, Apple, has decided to sue another mobile device manufacturer over alleged patent infringement.

Over the past couple of years the iPhone from Apple has become enormously popular in the UK as well as in other countries around the world. This smart phone boasts many features and offers a range of applications that have made it into a hugely popular device amongst consumers and business users, and naturally its popularity has resulted in many other mobile phone manufacturers launching their own smart phones to try and rival the Apple iPhone.

However, there is a fine line between producing a rival device to compete against the iPhone and using patented technology that is incorporated into the iPhone, and Apple has recently claimed that one company has done the latter. The technological giant has revealed that it is taking legal action against another mobile phone giant, HTC. Apple claims that HTC has infringed a number of patents that are used in the iPhone, and said that it will not just sit back and allow this to happen.

A senior official from Apple stated: “We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it. We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”

HTC is accused of infringing twenty patents with regards to the technology used in the iPhone, and is also accused of infringing patents with regards to technology used in the iPhone’s “underlying hardware and architecture.” HTC has only recently learned of Apple’s plans to take legal action, and has therefore not really commented on the case other than to state: “Until we have had this opportunity, we are unable to comment on the validity of the claims being made against HTC.”
