Supermarket giant Tesco has revealed that for the first time ever Android smart phone sales have overtaken iPhone sales on its network, reflecting the growing popularity of Android phones.
According to officials from the supermarket giant Tesco there has been something of a turnaround when it comes to the popularity of Android phones compared to the ever popular Apple iPhone series. Prior to Christmas the supermarket giant was seeing the iPhone outsell Android phones on its network by around two to one.
However, this seems to have changed over recent weeks, with officials from Tesco reporting that for the first time ever on its network the sale of Android phones has overtaken that of iPhones. In January the sale of Android phones drew level with that of iPhones on the Tesco network and by February Android sales had overtaken iPhone sales according to Tesco.
Graham Harris, CEO of Tesco Mobile, said: “As one of the UK’s leading operators, these sales are a useful barometer for smartphone trends. There is a lot of choice in the market and as a result consumers are driving healthy competition between rival operating systems.”
More and more people are finding Android phones appealing, largely because they have been constantly improving with improved features and benefits with each release. This year will see the release of a number of new Android phones as well as the release of a new iPhone version. Many will therefore be interested to see how the competition pans out between the two, as newer, improved versions of both hit the market.
