It has been revealed in a recent report that many areas of the UK are still experiencing poor levels of mobile 3G coverage despite a huge amount of investment in this technology.
A recent study has found that despite the billions of pounds of investment that has been made into 3G mobile technology there are still many areas that have poor 3G mobile coverage, particularly in rural parts of the UK. The research showed that there were a number of major towns and cities that did not have twenty four hour access to coverage.
The research involved nearly forty five thousand people who volunteered to take part in the project downloading special mobile apps, and the results showed that there were still many areas with not-spots. The results have indicated that the performance of different mobile network operators can vary widely throughout the country.
An official from Vodafone said that the study was an “interesting experiment in crowd sourcing data”. She said: “It adds another perspective to the maps we already provide to our customers to check the coverage in their area and across the country.”
She also added: “We invest millions of pounds each year in further improving the network. It’s always useful to see data from such a wide base and as the volume of data increases we’ll be watching with interest and using it to help us build on our strengths and identify areas that require additional attention.”
