Many don’t realise that they can recycle old mobiles

The results of recent research have shown that despite the increase in the number of mobile phone recycling companies many people in the UK still fail to realise that they can recycle their old phones.

Over the past couple of years mobile phone recycling companies have become more and more prevalent in the UK, and these companies allow mobile phone users to get rid of their old phones safely and in an environmentally way. Moreover, the recycling firms are often able to pay some money to the consumer depending on the make and model of the phones.

However, although a rising number of websites and companies that are able to recycle mobile phones have sprung up over the past couple of years, a recent report claims that nearly half of consumers still are not aware that they can recycle their old phone when they get a new one.

Mobile phone experts have said that around forty eight percent of mobile phone users fail to realise that they can recycle their old phones. The survey was carried out amongst two thousand people last month, and also showed that a further twenty eight percent had never thought about recycling their old phone when they bought a new one.

According to the research only eleven percent of mobile phone users had actually recycled a mobile phone, but four percent had recycled more than one phone. An official involved with the research said: “We were surprised that so many people still don’t realise they have the ability to recycle their old mobile phone handsets. Not only are they missing out on an opportunity to make some money from their old phones rather than leaving them gathering dust at home, they are also missing an opportunity to help the environment”.
