Mobile network operator Orange is said to be rolling out the first mobile payment service in the UK, which could make it possible for consumers to pay for purchases using their mobile phone rather than cash or card.
Over recent years making payments for purchases has become easier and easier. Gone are the days when cash or cheques were the only payment options available to consumers. These days we can pay for purchases using cash, credit card, debit card, contactless cards, the Internet, in person, by post, and by phone.
It seems that things are set to continue getting easier when it comes to making payments, with the mobile phone payment revolution set to get underway courtesy of mobile network giant Orange. The company is said to be rolling out the first mobile payment service in the UK, which means that consumers could soon be able to use their mobiles to pay for their purchases.
The service from Orange is set to launch this summer, and Orange will be partnering with banking giant Barclays in order bring out the service. This will provide another form of contactless payment for the consumer, enabling them to enjoy speed and convenience when making payments for items. It will also be another useful payment addition in the run up to the 2012 Olympics.
One official from Barclays said that it was about time that this technology was made available. He said: “I believe that future generations will find it surprising that early this century we were still carrying separate items to buy goods and to communicate with each other.”
