Following rumours of a spring launch for the Google smart phone, the Nexus One, is has now been suggested that it is more likely to be April when the phone is launched in the UK with the mobile network provider.
For some time now there has been speculation over when the Google smart phone, the Nexus One, will be available in the UK. The Nexus One has been surrounded with a great deal of hype as well as with controversy over problems that have been experienced by users. Many consumers have complained of being unable to get adequate support and not known who should be providing the support for the smart phones.
Google has been announcing that the Nexus One would be launched with its preferred network provider, Vodafone, in the spring. However, according to recent reports it is more likely to be April before the handset is properly launched in the UK. Whilst consumers can already buy an unlocked version of the handset from Google, discussions between Vodafone and Google are said to have been going on for some time with regards to the provision of the Nexus One on contract.
Whilst no firm information has been released with regards to the pricing of the device, it is thought that the cost will be similar to that of the Apple iPhone. The Nexus handset will still be purchased through Google, and customers will then get their network service provided through Vodafone. It is thought that Google will be handling all support relating to sales and hardware, whilst Vodafone will be responsible for handling network issues.
Some industry officials have said that whilst Google was hoping that the popularity of the handset would soar in the same way as it did with the Apple iPhone, lack of marketing and the fact that the handset can only be purchased through Google have adversely affected sales.
