It has been reported that mobile network provider Vodafone has dumped the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 cancelling its exclusive arrangement to sell the device.
There has been a great deal of bad news for the mobile phone giant Sony Ericsson over recent months, with handsets such as the Satio having experienced software problems that resulted in handsets being pulled from the shelves by many mobile phone resellers. It seems that 2010 has not kicked off the a much better start for Sony Ericsson, with one mobile network giant dumping its XPERIA X2.
Mobile network giant Vodafone had an exclusivity deal to stock the Sony Ericcson Xperia X2. However, according to reports Vodafone has ended this agreement and will no longer be stocking the WinMo. Vodafone is said to be focussing instead on the Android market and in a statement has stated that it will ‘not be ranging the Sony Ericsson X2″.
Vodafone also stated: “The delivery date of the device, with Windows 6.5, slipped pre-Christmas due to a series of technical issues, and we have taken the decision not to go ahead with the launch as it no longer fits with our planned portfolio.” Referring to the Vodafone cancellation Sony Ericsson responded by stating that it was “disappointed not to make this phone available to consumers in the UK.”
In the meantime Vodafone has its fingers in a number of different pies, and is set to start stocking the Apple iPhone and the new Google Nexus One smart phone. It will continue focusing on the smart phone and phones that use the Android operating system, with these handsets steadily growing in popularity.
