Nokia 5230 Purple Review
If you are ready to make the jump from a feature phone to a smartphone, the Nokia 5230 Purple is one option you might want to consider. This entry-level smartphone features a large touchscreen, as well as Assisted GPS with Ovi Maps, and support for 3G. Although the Nokia 5230 in purple does offer some great features, you will likely be disappointed with the lack of WiFi, and some of the extras that are missing, such as video calling.
With the Nokia 5230 Purple you get a smartphone that runs off of the Symbian S60 operating system, and though it does lack some features, it does come with some nice additions. The 5230 Nokia looks a lot like the 5800, and features a 3.2-inch touchscreen that provides a colorful, high-resolution display. Graphics look brilliant when viewing them on this screen.
Although the Nokia 5230 in purple isn’t really considered to be a music phone, it does come with a good music player as well as a built in FM radio. Unfortunately it does not include stereo speakers but the sound quality is great on headphones.
If you want a mobile phone that offers a high quality camera, you won’t get it with the Nokia 5230 Purple. This mobile does come with a built in 2-megapixel camera, but it doesn’t include flash or auto focus. Basically you could use the camera to get those unexpected shots, but if you want quality pictures you will definitely want to bring along your stand alone digital camera. The quality is a little better with the video camera, but again, not as good as what you would get with a higher quality camera.
For storing your media files the Nokia 5230 comes with 70 MB of internal memory and includes the option of expanding that memory up to 16GB with a microSD card. Another nice feature of the 5230 is that it offers fantastic battery life, which means a larger batter and more weight, but this can be overlooked if you don’t want to be constantly recharging your phone.
Despite the disappointment of having no WiFi, and a substandard camera, the Nokia 5230 still comes with some really nice features like 3G, GPS, and a large touchscreen. The features that are most important to you will likely be the deciding factor when it comes to purchasing this phone or another. If you want a better features set you might want to consider the Nokia 5800 instead.
