Palm Pre Plus UK Review
With the new Palm Pre Plus you get a smartphone that was crafted from the ground up to work with the Internet. This multitasking handset runs webOS, which is based on the Linux operating system. It is incredibly small and lightweight, while still sporting a large touchscreen and a slide out keyboard.
Made of glossy plastic, the Palm Pre Plus measures 2.3 x 3.9 x 0.67; this is definitely a handset that fits comfortably in the hand. Although constructed of plastic the Pre doesn’t have that cheap feel to it, and it certainly has the appearance of a mid range to high-end smartphone. In addition to its sleek and sexy look, you’ll get a 3.1-inch capacitive touchscreen. The larger display on this phone will make viewing video and web pages much easier and sending email and text messages is easier as well, as the Pre features a slide down full QWERTY keyboard.
The Palm Pre Plus specs include a variety of features and applications. You get support for 3G, as well as WiFi and Bluetooth. For Internal memory the Pre has 8 GB, but unfortunately there is no expansion slot for using SD cards to expand the memory. Some additional features you’ll get with this mobile phone include a 3.2-megapixel camera that comes with flash, though there is no video recording feature. Though the lack of video recording is disappointing, you do get clear and vibrant pictures with the camera.
For finding your way around an unfamiliar city, the Palm Pre Plus features GPS navigation that comes with Google Maps. There is also support for web based email as well as Social Networking sites including Google Gmail, Facebook, AIM, and Exchange. Of course there are also many personal management applications such as a calendar, notifications, etc.
Browsing the web on the Palm Pre Plus is a great experience. You’ll be able to view full web pages accurately and quickly. Another good feature you’ll find with this mobile is that it offers unified messaging, which means that you can send and receive your text, multimedia, and instant messages within the same application. For instant messages, you get support for AIM, and Google Talk.
For multimedia applications the Palm Pre Plus comes with a music and video player and support for a variety of file formats. You can also access iTunes with your handset and download music to your phone.
The biggest problem with the Pre is that it does not have a lot of battery life so if you are a heavy user you may find yourself charging the phone at least once a day. Aside from this, the Pre offers a lot of innovation in a tiny package. The Palm Pre Plus UK price is fairly reasonable, considering the many features that come built into this phone.
