GPS Mobile Phones

For the last few years mobile phones have been evolving at an incredible pace and have been constantly offering users more functions and facilities to allow them to get the most out of their handsets. Amongst the many advances are the GPS mobile phones that allow users to use their mobile handset as a satellite navigation system. The GPS in GPS phones stands for Global Positioning System and is a chip that is built into GPS phones allowing the location of the mobile phone to be pinpointed almost anywhere in the world with absolute accuracy.

What can users get out of GPS phones?

There is a whole range of facilities available on GPS phones, although the GPS related features that are available can often be limited by a number of factors like the specification of the handset being used, the manufacturer of the handset and sometimes even the network operator used.

The biggest feature of GPS phones is the satellite navigation facilities, which is like those used on the big SatNav systems like the TomTom or the Garmin, and this allows GPS phones to show maps of the area in which the handset is being used and can also show users their exact location and allow them to plan routes to specific destinations.

Another increasingly popular service provided on some of the best GPS phones is the facility to find places of interest, which can be places like hotels, restaurants, cinemas and companies, and then direct users to these locations.

Until recently GPS phones had issues when used in locations with tall buildings as it interfered with the satellite systems that are used to locate the GPS phone, although as technology has improved both in the phones and the satellites themselves this is now less of an issue.

Who will use GPS phones?

There are a huge number of uses for GPS phones that will appeal to both business and residential users alike. The ability to plan routes or find the nearest café or petrol station using phones with GPS can be used by both car users with a hands-free system in their car or people who are walking or using public transport. As GPS phones and the navigation software used on them improves, an increasing number of users are likely to use GPS phones as an alternative for the full size satellite navigation systems.

How to compare GPS phones

As with regular phones there a two ways in which to compare GPS phones and they are to use a comparison site to find cheap GPS phones and to search the website of network operators, mobile handset manufacturers and resellers.

Using a comparison site is the easiest method as all the necessary information is located in one place and it also allows users to filter the GPS phones that are displayed to fit their requirements. The other method of searching the various websites offering GPS phones can be more complicated and time-consuming but it does show every deal and special offer that is available at the time, which is something that comparison sites don’t always do.
